Correct fingering? (update)

Journal Entry: Thu Mar 20, 2008, 5:29 AM
The training has gone quite well over the past week and now I never look on the keyboard anymore when I type using the touch type method (except special characters). Not speedy though quite yet, about 120 signs per minute in avarage, but I feel that improves with time.

I can recommend typingmaster.com if you are interested in learning to type using the touch type method.

-----------
How many of you out there use the correct fingering when typing on a keyboard? I never have. I could a long time ago when I was in school as a youth (even without looking at the keyboard) and we had it in class. But back then we didn't have a computer at home (except the c64 for gaming) so that skill got lost. And I can type pretty fast i my own way so I have never bothered learning again.

However, I have long felt the urge to type correctly for some reason, so I have started to learn myself to type using the correct fingering just a few days ago. Breaking old habits that goes many many years back is hard though, and it is not easy at all but I'm comming along quite nicely I think and whatever I type now I do it the "correct" way no matter how long it takes me. I'm motivated to do this. I have even downloaded a Swedish program that will help me with it and it is a very good program which only costs like 5€.

I do have correct fingering :D I even can't write else when I need to... That's bed when you need to hold a pencil and write on the keyboard at the same time

Well I have an advantage. I went to school before they had computers and took typing. All through college I would type my papers right out of my head the night or two before they were due. If I had to look at the keyboard I never would have been able to do it. It has served me well on computers because usually, within not too long a time, all the letters are worn off my laptop keyboard and if I didn't know how to type I wouldn't be able to find any letters..Its worth learning

Haha I guess that could be a little disadvantage. But I could take that and who knows, maybe I can type in two ways when this is over ;)

I use two fingers to type everything. And I can do that pretty quick. But I am required to look at the keyboard for every letter I type. It's pretty fast, but after a while, I get tired....

Yes I can see that it's worth learning. For one you don't need to move you hands nearly as much, hardly at all. So it is comfortable. And after a while I think it is much easier to learn where the keys are without looking. It's just hard now in the beginning to learn to use the correct finger for each key, specially since I have been doing it the wrong way for so many years.

I think it's weird that they teached this stuff in school a long time ago, but now in the digital age it is no longer in the schedule. With so many people using computers these days it should be tought now as well, even more than before.

I have used several fingers on my right hand but with my left hand I have only been using one finger for some reason. You are right, it gets tiresome after a while beause the hands moves so much over the keyboard. I can do it pretty fast too using my old method, but now it's time to do it correctly. I can feel right away that it feels much better typing this way. The hands hardly moves at all since each finger has its keys assigned within reach. It doesn't go very fast now though, but I'm progressing fairly quickly I can feel. I just have to be stuborn about it.

I thought of something completely different when I read the title of this journal in my DevWatch. Sorry, I have nothing to add to this particular topic :)

I touch type. I don't know if I do it the correct way. But its pretty fast and I don't think I make too many typos
